Things to do inside on a rainy day with kids

Sometimes the weather prohibits us from enjoying much of the outdoor activities most families indulge in. Living in Florida, we have many months of rain, especially during hurricane season, so I thought I would share some of the ways my family and I entertain ourselves on these days.

  1. Make Paper Mache, check out my recipe and instructions here!

  2. Make an indoor fort using a blanket and a table, chair, or sofas.

  3. Make homemade play-dough, check out my recipe and instructions here!

  4. Make paper airplanes and have a contest to see whose can fly the farthest.

  5. Bake, cookies, cakes, muffins, anything!

  6. Play a live version of Draw Something.

  7. Play Charades.

  8. Read stories to each other or make some up.

  9. Have everyone get in their PJ's and crawl into mom & dad's bed to watch movies with the lights off.

  10. Have a Wii tournament.

  11. Have an indoor picnic.

  12. Find some old Halloween paint and do face painting.

  13. Look through old photos. Kids love to see you as children!

  14. Have a pillow fight.

  15. If you have a video recorder, make a movie.

If it's safe to go outside (no thunder, lightning, or severe weather), find a few umbrellas and go for a walk, or leave the umbrellas behind and play outside in the rain, jump in puddles, and remember what it was like to be kid. Rain boots are optional!
