Homemade Play-dough

Making homemade play-dough is so much fun! The kids really enjoy it and it can also be used for learning. Play-dough is also great for developing motor skills in young children.

  • 2 cups flour

  • 1 cup salt

  • 2 cups water

  • 2 tablespoons cooking oil

  • 4 teaspoons cream of tartar

  • Food coloring

  • Saucepan

  1. Mix dry ingredients well.

  2. Add remaining ingredients, except the food coloring.

  3. Cook over medium heat stirring occasionally.

  4. Once it begins to harden, add food coloring.

  5.  Continue stirring until it forms a ball or begins to gather around the spoon.

  6. Let cool before giving to children.

  • Keep in a zip-lock bag or sealed container for future use.
  • This makes a lot of play-dough, I usually divide the mix in 3-4 pots so that I can have different colors. It depends how much you need and how many children will be playing with the dough. The 3 balls you see here were from one serving of the ingredients that I divided in three.
